I am a children’s photographer based in Lowestoft and I photograph lots of families from across Suffolk and Norfolk in my studio.

What is a Little Artist "In The Box" Session?

In one word? Chaos! Not every child wants to sit still and smile for photos, and honestly, they shouldn’t have to. The Little Artist "In The Box" sessions are all about letting children be themselves — painting, playing, making a mess, and just enjoying the experience while I capture all those real expressions and little moments in between.

Your little one will sit inside the box with a selection of bright neon paints and a blank canvas, and then we just let them do their thing while I capture it all. The images are then put together in one final portrait to show off their personality and the fun they had during the session.

Do the children need to sit still and smile?

No! I actively encourage all of my Little Artists to get up onto their knees, or even their feet if that's what makes them more comfortable. There will be plenty of smiles once they realise that they can do what they want with their little paint brushes and that they won't be told they can't paint on the walls or floor! My style is very relaxed and I have found the best way to get the true genuine smiles is to stand back and let them get on with it.

What if they get paint everywhere, not just on the canvas?

I'm going to let you into a little secret.. That's the whole point! I'm serious... You get to take the canvas home as a keepsake but how they get there is totally up to them. If your little one decides to paint themselves from top to bottom as well as their canvas then fab.. as long as you are ok with that (and if it's not then we can control that too!) and don't worry about the box, it's nothing that a clean up & maybe a coat of paint can't handle! I use Scola Readymix Flourescent paint in a variety of beautiful colours which is non toxic so it is safe incase it ends up in your little one's mouth.

What makes these portraits so different?

These portraits are so different from traditional studio photos because they capture a whole collection of moments rather than just one smile at the camera. When parents see their finished Little Artist image, they often recognise so many little expressions and faces that their child pulls at home every day. It becomes less about one photo and more about remembering what their child was like at that age — messy, creative, funny, serious, and completely themselves. Plus, who doesn't love seeing paint and mess everywhere when they don't have to tidy up!

Where do the Little Artist "In The Box" sessions take place?

The Little Artist "In The Box" Portraits take place in my central Lowestoft studio. For those who are unfamiliar with where Lowestoft is, we sit right on the border of Suffolk & Norfolk so I photography families from both! They are ideal for children between the ages of 16 months to 6 years and are perfect to celebrate a birthday or just for fun!
